Fibroadenoma

Fibroadenomas are very common benign growths in the breast. They are an overgrowth of the normal tissues that make up the breast, but the cause is unknown. They respond to hormonal changes during your menstrual cycle and pregnancy.

A fibroadenoma is diagnosed with a biopsy. They usually don’t require any treatment or surgical removal unless they have atypical features or are rapidly growing.

Having a fibroadenoma does not significantly increase your risk of breast cancer. They are made of normal breast tissue cells so they can develop into a cancer, but the rate of this is no higher than developing a cancer elsewhere in your breast.
